SONOGRAM (ULTRASOUND) OF SCROTUM

Description
The sonogram, ultrasound and echogram are the same test. Using sound waves we can get a fairly clear view of internal structures. A special probe (like a microphone) is placed on the skin after it is prepared with a special jelly. The picture is a reflection of sound waves. This is a painless procedure and there are no injections. There might be some mild discomfort with manipulation of the testicles. The scrotal ultrasound is a versatile test used to evaluate lumps or bumps in the scrotum. Among other things, infections, cysts and fluid collections can be differentiated from tumors. Occasionally, a water bag is placed over the scrotum in addition to the jelly or oil used in ultrasound examinations.

Possible risks
There are no risks with this procedure.

Preparation
No restrictions of diet, fluids or medications exist for this examination.
