Rezum Therapy for Prostate BPH at Houston Metro Urology

Rezum therapy for BPH

Now Available at Houston Metro Urology

Houston Metro Urology is the first in Houston to offer the Rezūm® System, an innovative, minimally invasive treatment option for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).. Designed to be performed in a clinical setting, Rezūm is an FDA-approved treatment that uses the stored thermal energy in water vapor (steam) to treat the extra prostate tissue that is causing symptoms such as frequency, urgency, irregular flow, weak stream, straining and getting up at night to urinate. BPH is a localized, enlargement of the prostate gland in aging adult men. Nearly 12 million U.S. men suffer from BPH-related symptoms that may require therapy, yet more than half choose not to do anything to address their BPH symptoms. Their reasons include not wanting to start new prescriptions, hesitations around the potential side effects of drugs, and concerns about the potential side effects or complications of current minimally invasive BPH treatments or surgical procedures.

“We are looking at a minimally invasive procedure that is done as an out-patient. It does not involve any hospitalization, it does not involve bleeding, and patients can go back to their normal activity within a very short period of time. So far, we have experience with this technology for the last several months, and every one of the patients that I have operated on has had very good results.” Dr. Zvi  Schiffman, M.D Houston Metro Urology

Rezūm is administered on an outpatient basis and can be performed under oral sedation or local anesthesia. Initial studies have shown that the Rezūm treatment allows men to retain sexual function, unlike many other existing BPH treatments.

“It was terrible, I was getting up 5 to 6 times a night to use the restroom. My health and my blood pressure were going up because I wasn’t getting any sleep. I was irritable and tired. Dr. Schiffman showed me the prostate and what the Rezum procedure entailed. He mentioned that it was done with water vapor, and I thought, “Water vapor? How can you go wrong?” John Luna Rezum Patient
